Monday August 10 – Leisure Plus – Semi-Moderate hike – Solamere to Snow Top – Loop Hike 8:30am-11:00am

Meet at the Snow Top & Solamere trailheads, 3853 Rising Star Lane. There is plenty of parking in the Cul-de-Sac. MapsGoogle and Mapquest will get you there even though they are inaccurate. The GPS coordinates for the Rising Star Cul-de-Sac are N 40.39.15.3, W 111.28.10.3. We will depart at 8:30am for the hike.

This will be a 2.85 mile loop hike with 330 feet of elevation gain. This hike is partially shaded and partially exposed. Shortly past halfway along the hike we will come to the short, side trail leading to the summit of Snow Top. At the top we have 360 degree panoramic views. We will stop there for water and the views. The Summit County/Wasatch County line marker is there. To the east we see the Jordanelle Reservoir and Deer Crest; to the south the St. Regis and Deer Valley; to the west PCMR, upper old town, the Queen Ester area, the Deer Valley Plaza and the duck ponds; and to the north Kimball Junction, Park Meadows and the Solamere area. The views are fabulous. We continue the loop hike to our starting point. We will hike at a leisurely pace with stops for photos and water. The hike will take 1.75 to 2.0 hours including stops. This is a popular trail so please bring a mask, buff or bandana. We may encounter mountain bikers and will step uphill to clear the trail for them, if possible.

Dogs are welcome. Cell service is good. There are NO restroom facilities at the trailhead. If the need arises you will have to use the “facilatree” off to the side of the trail.

Kathy and Steve will co-lead this hike with a maximum of 16 people split into 2 groups of 8 to facilitate hiking ability and proper social distancing. Therefore, this will be a RSVP hike. Send an email to sandkholmes@comcast.net if you wish to join. Please include your cell number in case they need to contact you. Kathy or Steve will advise you by return email if you are on the list or if you are on a wait list.

Be sure to bring the club’s Activity Release Form, (COVID-19), which is to be signed on the day of the hike and deposit the form in the box in the back of the Holmes’s car. The form may be found on the club’s web site under the “ABOUT US” tab.

Please remember the 4 hiking essentials including good hiking or trail footwear. Don’t forget sunscreen, a sun hat, water and snacks.

If the weather is questionable on the morning of the hike, please contact the co-leaders to see if it has been cancelled.
